GUYANA RENEWS HEALTHCARE PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTHWELL TO EXPAND MEDICAL TRAINING AND EMERGENCY SERVICES

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA | OCTOBER 10, 2026 — Guyana’s Ministry of Health has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Northwell Health, strengthening cooperation in medical education, emergency medical services and specialized healthcare training as the country continues to modernize its health system.

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony announced the renewed agreement in a public statement, highlighting the importance of developing a skilled healthcare workforce alongside investments in new hospitals, medical technology and expanded health services.

According to Anthony, the partnership will deepen collaboration in medical and nursing education, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), specialized clinical training, professional development and knowledge exchange.

The minister emphasized that expanding healthcare infrastructure must be accompanied by improvements in the knowledge and capabilities of doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians and other healthcare professionals.

“As Guyana rapidly modernizes its health system, we must ensure that our healthcare workforce advances alongside our new hospitals, technologies and expanded services,” Anthony stated.

He said the renewed partnership is intended to provide healthcare workers with access to advanced training, practical skills and professional development opportunities aimed at improving patient care.

The agreement also reflects the ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery through international partnerships and technical cooperation.

While the announcement outlined several areas of collaboration, it did not specify the duration of the renewed agreement, its financial commitments or the number of healthcare professionals expected to benefit.

Anthony maintained that stronger partnerships and continued investment in healthcare workers are essential to improving standards and ensuring better medical services for Guyanese.
