GUYANA SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE RECORDS LARGEST GRADUATING CLASS IN FIVE YEARS AS 102 COMPLETE TRAINING

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA | OCTOBER 14, 2026 β€” The Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) has recorded its largest graduating class in five years, with 102 students completing their studies during a graduation ceremony held Tuesday at the Pegasus Hotel.

According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the number represents an increase from 84 graduates in 2025. Of this year’s graduating class, 65 were women and 37 were men, while 66 students earned credits or distinctions.

Addressing the graduates, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha praised their academic achievements and emphasized the importance of developing skilled professionals to support Guyana’s expanding agricultural sector.

β€œThis achievement reflects your dedication, discipline, and commitment to learning,” Mustapha said.

The ceremony also marked the graduation of the first group of students from the newly introduced Certificate in Livestock Production and Management program, designed to strengthen technical expertise in animal health, livestock management and production efficiency.

Mustapha disclosed that more than G$44 million was invested in the institution’s livestock farm this year, including approximately G$21.8 million for a new training center and office. The investment is intended to improve practical training and prepare graduates for employment and entrepreneurship within the agricultural industry.

The minister encouraged graduates to continue developing their knowledge, adopt modern agricultural technologies and explore innovative approaches to challenges affecting farmers and food production.

β€œThe knowledge you have gained must be continually developed and applied or you will remain stagnant,” he told the graduates.

Since its establishment in 1963, the Guyana School of Agriculture has produced 4,997 graduates who have contributed to farming, agricultural research, forestry, livestock production and other related fields.

The latest graduating class comes as Guyana continues efforts to expand agricultural production, strengthen food security and develop a skilled workforce capable of responding to climate change and evolving industry demands.
