GEORGETOWN, GUYANA | OCTOBER 16, 2026
President Irfaan Ali has officially welcomed 15 international cricket teams to Guyana ahead of the International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40s World Cup 2026, reaffirming his government’s commitment to expanding sports tourism and attracting major international sporting events.
The tournament, scheduled to run from October 17 to 31, will feature 59 matches across 10 venues in Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo, bringing together players, officials and supporters from around the world.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Friday, President Ali pledged the government’s full support for the tournament and emphasized the importance of providing a memorable experience for visiting teams and spectators.
The Head of State said the event forms part of Guyana’s wider efforts to establish itself as a leading destination for international sports competitions, while creating opportunities for tourism and economic activity.

President Ali also disclosed that his administration is working to attract several major international tournaments in 2027 and has pledged support to the Cricket West Indies Masters Association for any future bid to host the Over-40s T20 World Cup in Guyana.
Beyond the cricket competition, the President encouraged international visitors to explore Guyana’s natural attractions, experience its cultural heritage and enjoy the country’s hospitality.
The tournament is expected to provide opportunities for local businesses, particularly those involved in accommodation, transportation, hospitality and tourism, as Guyana continues its efforts to develop the sports tourism sector.
With matches scheduled across three counties, the International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup will place Guyana’s sporting facilities and tourism offerings before an international audience over the next two weeks.
