PUBLIC SERVICE CREDIT UNION CHAIRMAN OUTLINES 2027–2031 STRATEGIC PLAN, EMPHASIZES MEMBER SERVICES

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA | OCTOBER 15, 2026 — Chairman of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union Limited (GPSCCU), Trevor L. Benn, has outlined the institution’s plans to strengthen financial services, expand digital accessibility and improve member benefits through a newly developed Strategic Plan covering 2027 to 2031.

In his message marking International Credit Union Day 2026, Benn reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to financial inclusion, responsible management and sustainable growth, while recognizing the contribution of credit unions to the economic well-being of their members and communities.

This year’s observance, held on Thursday, October 15, marks the 78th anniversary of International Credit Union Day under the theme, “Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World.”

Benn said the theme highlights the importance of cooperative financial institutions in an environment characterized by rapid economic, technological and social changes. He noted that credit unions continue to provide financial alternatives grounded in cooperation, shared responsibility and mutual support.

Highlighting the institution’s longstanding commitment to its members, Benn emphasized that the success of the credit union extends beyond financial performance to the practical assistance it provides to individuals, families and businesses.

“At GPSCCU, prosperity is not measured solely by financial performance; it is also reflected in the homes we help our members secure, the education we help finance, the businesses we support, the families we strengthen, and the opportunities we help create.”

The chairman said the institution continues to invest in innovation, digital services and improved accessibility to ensure that members can obtain financial assistance more efficiently. He also emphasized that technological development should complement, rather than replace, the personal relationships that are central to the credit union movement.

Benn stressed that professional service, responsible financial management and strong governance remain important priorities as the institution works to build a more resilient organization.

“We remain committed to ensuring that our members experience service that is professional, respectful, inclusive, and centred on their financial well-being.”

Looking ahead, Benn identified the recently developed 2027–2031 Strategic Plan as a major framework for the institution’s future development. He explained that the plan will guide efforts to improve member experiences, encourage innovation, establish stronger partnerships and support long-term institutional stability.

“It represents our commitment to sustainable growth, improved member experience, innovation, stronger partnerships, and a more resilient institution that is prepared to serve generations to come.”

While the chairman outlined the strategic priorities, his message did not provide specific financial targets, investment figures or implementation schedules for the proposed initiatives.

Benn also expressed appreciation to the credit union’s members, management, staff and partners for their continued confidence and support, encouraging them to remain committed to the cooperative principles that guide the institution.

The chairman concluded by reaffirming the credit union’s mission of putting people before profit and strengthening its contribution to the financial well-being of members across Guyana.
