World AIDS Day: Guyana Records 449 New HIV Infections in 2025 — Health Minister Sounds Alarm
Health administrators expanding decentralized clinical testing across regional health centers.
On the observance of World AIDS Day, the Ministry of Health reported that Guyana recorded 449 newly diagnosed cases of HIV during the past calendar year, prompting health authorities to sound a national call for heightened awareness and community testing.
Delivering the keynote address in Georgetown, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony underscored that while medical interventions such as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and modern antiretroviral treatments are distributed free of charge nationwide, social stigma and delayed screening continue to hamper prevention targets.
Public health teams are partnering with civil society networks to roll out discreet self-testing kits and decentralized diagnostic facilities across all ten administrative regions.
